Burritos for college

Posted on December 2nd, 2013

We know we’d do unforgivable things for free Chipotle.

Chipotle college

One high school is using the lure of Chipotle to motivate students to finish their college applications.

When it comes to dealing with tasks that seem daunting or difficult, the promise of a tasty burrito at the end might just be what it takes to pull you through and get you to accomplish an annoying errand.

Now, according to the AP, one high school is capitalizing on the widespread popularity of the Mexican chain by giving students free Chipotle gift cards for finishing their college applications early–something most students dread and put off until the last minute.

Motivating students to apply to college

But free burritos are just part of the solution.

The initiative is part of the American Council on Education’s American College Application Campaign, which works with states, districts and schools to focus one week a year on activities to help students with the application process. Activities and incentives vary by school and are geared toward students who have completed a college ready curriculum.

Particularly at low-income high schools where few students go on to college, motivating students to apply can be a challenge. At these schools, many students are the first in their families to go to college, and they’re unsure how to go about the application process.

We think it’s great that creative campaigns like these are help students and families with college admissions and financial aid. And applying early put students at an advantage for receiving scholarships and other forms of financial aid.

Help with college applications and financial aid

Application fees, college essays, and financial aid can seem overwhelming if you don’t have a knowlegeable person guiding you through. We may not make a burrito as good as Chipotle, but we can offer assistance and advice throughout the application and financial aid process to make it easier on your family and save you time and money.
