A run-down of the schools with the best financial aid

Posted on November 21st, 2012

Every year, the Princeton Review ranks the best colleges in the nation based upon certain key factors related to the total college experience. Even though many prospective applicants focus on what schools may offer them the best social experience, parents and students should be sure to consider what schools give the best financial aid.

According to the 2012 list released back in September, Princeton University is not only one of the best schools in the country academically, but it offers the best financial aid packages to prospective students. However, on average the school only accepts roughly 8 percent of total applicants, making Princeton a great deal for those who get in, but one of the more exclusive colleges in the country.

This is a trend for many of the more prestigious schools that have a connotation for being among the most expensive. Top colleges like Stanford and Yale also place in the top 15 on the list despite having some of the highest tuition rates in the country. The reason for this is because big-name schools tend to have large endowments that they dedicate a good portion of to helping deserving but underfunded students afford their degrees. Therefore, it is much easier for qualified applicants to negotiate financial aid at top university.

Not all of the schools with the best college financial aid options are exclusive private universities like Princeton or Yale. The University of Virginia ranks second on the list and is a public school that has an acceptance rate of more than 33 percent. As well, number three on the list is the New College of Florida, which offers a solid education to roughly 56 percent of those who apply.

It is possible to get a degree at a great school without breaking the bank, and the College Finance Group can help applicants choose a school that works given their financial situation.
